The Levi
Eshkol 'Green Village' (Hakfar Hayarok in Hebrew)
is, as its name implies, a green haven in the bustling, Central Sharon area in Israel
This is a youth village which combines modern
high-tech studies with practical work experience in various fields, in
such a way as to develop the students' self-confidence and enable them to
experience achievements. More than 1000 students between the ages of 12 to
18, both Sabras and new immigrants live and study in a warm and supportive
surrounding.
Hakfar
Hayarok is an educational institution whose aim is to empower the students
materialize their inner potential.
It teaches the student to take an active part in all
the village activities; The essence of the Hakfar Hayarok is based on
co-operation, responsibility and teamwork. These values are supposed to
help the student become an autonomous, responsible and independent citizen
who is prepared to contribute to society.
Our educational credo is to enable students, both
external and internal, study in optimal conditions, so that they can
materialize their potential, extend their knowledge and improve their
intellectual achievements. Our aim is to guide them materialize their
capability in order to improve their chances for mobility in the
future. They share the experience of dealing with problems, companionship
and social solidarity while accepting and respecting one another.
The external students' needs are being met by , a
nutritious lunch (a hot meal) in the dining room, helping classes after
school hours, a wide and supportive studies plan and an advanced,
up-to-date computer lab.
The students are also provided with modern sports'
facilities, an on-campus gym, after-school activities, and a swimming pool
(summertime only), all included, free of charge. Transportation is granted
to and from many locations, all over the country, at special, subsidized
prices.
The three elements of Hakfar Hayarok are the school, the
farm and the youth village (the living accommodations.) These work
together to offer the student the best of all worlds.
The
school
The
High School
Hakfar Hayarok's high-school is one of the most advanced of
its kind, which incorporates advanced teaching methods. Within the
framework of the "22 Project", the school demonstrates alternative methods of teaching and
student assessment. Our school is constantly developing new
student-oriented teaching methods, adjusted to the needs of each student.
Indeed, the student is the focus of our system, and it is his or her needs
which determine our approach. We believe that every student has the
potential to achieve and to grow; more, each student has the right to do
so.
Our approach is based on the basic assumption that
every student can achieve; it is our duty to make this possible. Our task
is to create a warm environment, relevant to the demands of modern
society, which challenges the student with the help of meaningful,
exciting teaching experiences. This environment encourages the growth of a
thinking person who believes in his or her potential and feels part of his
or her society.
Within the school, various majors are offered in the
fields of natural-sciences and agriculture, music, multimedia, fashion
design, computer-aided vehicle diagnostics, electronics, and information
systems.

Zootechnologica
Center
located
in the village.
The
Youth Village: (living
accommodations)
Most of the students live in the youth village, which
is their home during the period of their high-school studies. The village
is lodged in a series of small houses surrounded by gardens which are
cultivated by the students, and afford a high standard of accommodation.
Life in the youth village offers the students a living experience which is
culturally rich and shapes their social maturity and expectations for the
future. The students live in a co-operative society in which they play an
active part; this teaches them social skills and raises their self-esteem.
Youth counselors and 'house mothers' live within the youth village, near
their charges, and accompany them every step of their life in the Kfar. An
advisory team composed of a psychologist and a social worker also are
ready to help the students whenever needed.
Extra-curricular activities
The students can also avail themselves of a gym. They
can take part in basketball games, aerobics, table tennis, martial arts
classes, 'military fitness' classes, athletics, weight-lifting and play on
the Kfar football team. Cultural activities include classes in drama,
dance and painting. There are a Film Club, and a hiking group. Musical
activities include classes in percussion, guitar, piano and even one of
the best choirs in the country.
Students living in the Youth village experience
democracy directly. At the beginning of each year elections are held for
various councils in which the students play an active part in managing the
Kfar, including a student's court and the student newspaper.
The farm
The farm plays an important part in the student's life, and
is among the biggest and most advanced of the agricultural school farms in
the country. It is run mainly by the students themselves and contributes
to their sensation of belonging, of playing an important part in their
environments. This is enhanced by the fact that the students allocate work
rotas and are fully responsible for the day-to-day running of the farm.
The farm poses daily challenges and real-life problems which the students
must solve, by themselves if possible. This has an important role in
developing the personality of the students and in giving them emotional
satisfaction. The fully-equipped farm includes such departments as animal
husbandry - cows, chickens and horses - field crops, fruit-orchards and a
modern garage which services the mechanical equipment. There is even a
small zoo! Selected
agricultural studies form part of the school curriculum, within the
framework of the Life Sciences department.
Youth
Exchange Program
In
cognizance of the importance of the young generation's exposure to their
mates around the world, Hakfar Hayarok is engaged in various programs of
exchanging youth delegations from different countries.
This
cultural immersion program is coordinated and supported by the
Israel
Youth Exchange Council
whose
basic concept enterprises the
assumption that becoming familiar with the mosaic of people and cultures
around the world assists in structuring a foundation of common values of
tolerance, democracy and respect for human rights .
The
"youth exchange" aims at providing a unique, mutually enriching,
high-quality and personalized exchange experience. It broadens the
knowledge and acquaintance of partner countries. The intercultural meeting
and interaction between Israeli and multinational and multicultural youth
worldwide enhances and reinforces friendships which are anchored in an
atmosphere of mutual respect, comprehension and exposure to diversified
cultures that brings about educational, cultural and social
cooperation
Hakfar
Hayarok's youth exchange
initiative acknowledges the value of exposing youth around the world to
diverse cultural settings. We offer students from various countries the
opportunity to visit Israel and partake in tours, field trips, and other
educational activities, which expose them to the many facets of life in
Israel. Students have host families with whom they stay on the weekend,
while during the week they take residence on campus. In exchange, our
students travel to other countries and are hosted by families of
participating affiliate schools..
Our
students visit host families for 7-10 days during Spring. The following
Autumn, students from the host families abroad visit Israel and are hosted
by the families of the youth who they hosted the previous school
year.

Computerized Resource Center.
The personal computer is an essential and integral part of
the studying process. Various teaching programs are constantly being
developed . English as a second language, for example, is best taught
by the use of the program in the Computerized Learning Center. Biology, Fashion design,
Electronics and Data System studies require the constant use of computers.
Hakfar Hayarok's Resource Center enables students to study in
a different way,
in a developed high- tech environment, using audio-
visual aids, guided and supported by qualified faculty.

The
Students' Learning Center
Our students are highly motivated as far as learning is
concerned. Most of them know that a Matriculation diploma is the
“ticket” to success in the multi cultural Israeli society.. The goal
of the Student Learning Center is to open new learning
channels which will enable students to succeed.
They get the
"One on One" support, which enables them to make progress according
to their individual pace and build their self confidence. The “
Student
Learning
Center
” is the optimal solution for
our students. It is the key to their success.
Hakfar Hayarok as an Experimental Youth Village.
Introduction:
In 2004, Hakfar Hayarok made the first steps towards
becoming an experimental youth village, with the support of the
Entrepreneurial Department of the Ministry of Education. The basic
concepts of the experimental youth village are being developed according
to the educational approach of the village: humane and democratic
education, tolerance, acceptance of the environment, and connection to the
land.
Rational.
The experiment aims to design a 21st century
youth village, centering inter-relations between the human being and its
surrounding. That type of youth village is concerned with enabling
the building of the person’s identity, one who is capable of dealing with
changes, make decisions and comprehend their meaning and
consequences.
The experiment aims to convert Hakfar Hayarok into a
youth village concerned with developing an environmental-social
leadership which provides educational services, values and
culture to the surrounding community.
Objectives:
1.Building and developing a youth leadership, designated to
position the relationship between man and his environment at the center of
the public agenda.
2.Converting the farm into an academic lab which will
function as a main source of empowerment, development of the student’s
abilities, socialization and construction of the personal identity.
3.Intensifying the connection between the village and the
surrounding communities, and recognizing the specific elements of the
village’s agricultural foundations that are able to serve and enrich the
urban community’s ability to deal with environmental-social issues, such
as: restoring and preserving the environment, the person's and the
community’s welfare , etc
The
Gifted Students Project.
Hakfar Hayarok and the Gifted Students Department of the
Ministry of Education offer a special program for gifted students who have
been evaluated as such, by the Karni Institute in Kfar Saba. The
program is designated for the 7th graders and up, from the
surrounding areas; special transportation is provided. The program is
based on the regular curriculum with special emphasis on different
enriching and challenging subjects. The students who are interested are
offered the possibility to engage on an academic program at an early
stage.
